Advancing Excellence Through Ongoing Collaboration

We’ve heard the calls for additional collaboration and support between triennial surveys and we’re responding with a new approach — Joint Commission Continuous Engagement. This optional approach to engagement is designed specifically for hospitals and critical access hospitals. Built on feedback from the organizations we serve, Continuous Engagement fosters a more collaborative, consistent relationship between surveys — supporting a hospital’s journey toward sustained excellence.

Customizable Options Available

Hospitals and critical access hospitals can choose the number of touchpoints that work best for them:

Virtual touchpoints between full survey cycles:

  • One, two, or three four-hour virtual touchpoints per full survey cycle
  • Each virtual touchpoint will include discussion of the corrective action and sustainment plans AND/OR focused topics based on standards chosen by the hospital
  • Standards and survey experts and hospital leaders will discuss performance strengths, leading practices and resources

On-site touchpoint between full survey cycles:

  • One eight-hour on-site touchpoint per full survey cycle (with a virtual prep call)
  • The on-site touchpoint will include discussion of the corrective action and sustainment plans AND/OR focused topics based on standards chosen by the hospital
  • Standards and survey experts and hospital leaders will discuss performance strengths, leading practices and resources
The Continuous Engagement approach is more than a process — it’s a partnership. By creating more frequent and meaningful connections, organizations can engage in impactful ways to advance patient-centered improvements in healthcare quality and safety.
